Description
The DIS Furniture Design in Scandinavia program, developed in cooperation with Denmark's Design School, trains students in the full design process of a piece of furniture - from initial concept through desk design and model construction, to the building of an actual prototype. This comprehensive program exposes the student to the history, theories, works and current expressions of Scandinavian furniture design.

In this summer-long program, students will enroll in two courses: Furniture Design Studio and Workshop (6 credits), and Furniture Design in Scandinavia (3 credits), for a total of nine (9) academic credits.

The program is designed for students majoring in industrial design, interior design, interior architecture, architecture, the arts; or students with other relevant backgrounds.

Highlights
Students will also participate in a 9-day study tour to Denmark, Sweden and Finland, to study prime examples of Scandinavian furniture design, interior design, and architecture.

The program includes a number of field study visits in Copenhagen which introduce the student to prime workshops, factories, and examples of modern Danish furniture design and design in general.

Prior experience with furniture design, stationary power tools and hand tools is required. Previous courses in the theory and history of furniture design are recommended. To apply for the program, you must be enrolled at a professional school or department of architecture or design at the junior, senior or graduate level.
