Highlights:
Ankara, the capital of Turkey, is steeped in history and not surprisingly, much of the city's sights are devoted to history -- some ancient, some modern.
Many museums around the capital devote themselves to life during the Hatti, Hittite, Phrygian, Urartian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, and Ottoman periods, as well as the coming of the liberation and the birth of the new Turkish nation.
Despite its long and continuous history of inhabitancy, Ankara thrives as a modern, well-planned capital city. Featuring wide avenues and green parks, embassies and government buildings, the city enjoys a wide range of fine restaurants, hotels and shops.
