Description
St. John's University believes that every student needs a global perspective for success in their personal and professional lives. To this end, we offer a variety of study abroad options to suit your needs. Intersession opportunities give you flexibility to take additional credits in a short time period while enjoying the advantages of studying abroad.

Our short-term programs provide all the benefits of intensive experiential learning while accommodating students with more specific academic or time concerns. As with all our programs, you'll make extensive use of the local environment as part of your classroom experience.

St. John's unique courses will immerse you in such disciplines as language and culture, communications, history and art. In addition, these programs allow you ample time to explore your surroundings on you own and become immersed in your new home cities.

Benefits include:

- Full immersion in a foreign country
- More affordable
- Focused on short-term coursework
- Popular destinations

The Tropical Ecology and Evolution tour is a true academic adventure in the tropical paradise that was inspired by Charles Darwin! Students explored the unspoiled Galapagos Islands - hiked across volcanic desert islands, observed amazing creatures and snorkeled in the species-rich waters a thousand kilometers off the coast of Ecuador.

Taught by Dr. Christopher Bazinet, a leading St. John's professor, BIO 1859 - Tropical Ecology and Evolution is a three-credit course that introduces students to tropical ecology, biodiversity, and evolution. A required journal documents observations from field trips, and notes from seminar sessions.

Highlights
Students have the opportunity to explore the lush biodiversity of the Galapagos Island during St. John's University's Winter Inter-session.

Through its study abroad programs, St. John's University prepares students to succeed in our increasingly international marketplace. We emphasize a global perspective. Through studying abroad, you will put your education into action by going beyond the classroom, simply by living and learning in a new social and cultural environment.

St. John's University's Mission Statement
St. John's University is Catholic, Vincentian, and Metropolitan. We aim not only to be excellent professionals with an ability to analyze and articulate clearly what is, but also to develop the ethical and aesthetic values to imagine and help realize what might be. St. John's is a Catholic university, founded in 1870 in response to an invitation of the first Bishop of Brooklyn, John Loughlin, to provide the youth of the city with an intellectual and moral education.
