Description
The Alliance for Global Education is a partnership of The College of Global Studies at Arcadia University and the Institute for Study Abroad at Butler University, formed with the vision of opening non-traditional destinations to an ever-growing and more diverse U.S. undergraduate population. With current programs in China, and programs in India on the horizon, the Alliance for Global Education maintains the high academic standards, strong student services, and careful health and safety measures of its partner institutions while furthering its core mission of offering students a stimulating, interdisciplinary introduction to dynamic countries and cultures that are of ever-increasing scholarly, political, and economic interest. The Alliance for Global Education's Programs in China are hosted in cooperation with three internationally-respected Chinese Universities Fudan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Beijing Language and Culture University. Students take courses in Chinese language along with their studies in areas of particular interest, including Issues in Contemporary Chinese Society, International Business, Economics, Politics and Sino-US Relations. Credit and course requirements: The internship course are worth 3 credits and will replace one of the area studies or business courses usually taken at BLCU or SUFE. You are awarded credit for the academic component of the internship. You will complete a research project, including a 3000 word paper in English. Your work will be supervised throughout the term by a professor who will meet with you individually every two weeks. In the fall and spring semesters, you will spend 10-12 hours per week (or 120 hours semester) at your internship. In the summer term, you will spend 20 hours per week at your internship. (Note that in addition to language, summer students only take one area studies or business content course. If you choose the internship, you will not take any other content courses.)

Highlights
Chinese university professors teach all courses for Alliance students, and a capstone project completed by each student rounds out the academic experience. A full range of excursions which afford students a deeper appreciation of Chinese language and culture are a fascinating component of the programs. The programs are supported by a team of experts in study abroad and Chinese studies, both in the US and in China. These exciting semester and summer options - including new possibilities for internships - underscore the importance of understanding this complex and intricate nation and society, both as a world economic giant and as a repository of intellectual, artistic and cultural treasures dating back millennia. X'ian: Art, History, and the Silk Road X'ian International Studies University will host this unique option which explores history, art history, Chinese culture, film, anthropology, archaeology, and Chinese language. Students also take an exhilarating field study trip along the Silk Road.
