The Mayan Riviera: Its Land. Its People
  Mexico

Term: Winter 
Dates: Winter Break 2008/09

Description: Travel to the Mexico to study the impact the rapid influx of people to many ancient Maya cities in Mexico and Central America has had on the land and people of the Riviera Maya.

Highlights:
*Coursework
Through lectures, readings, and various excursions and meetings with local people students learn about Maya culture and Indigenous worldviews of nature and science.

*Excursions
Exursions may include a jungle tour, visits to a cave, ecological park, Mayan ruins, and several snorkeling trips. Students may also meet Mayan elders and participate in indigenous ceremonies.

*Housing & Meals
Students live in shared housing with other program participants. A welcome dinner and farewell luncheon are included in the program fee. Additional meals can be taken in the housing or at local eateries.

*On-Site Support
On-site support is provided by a local learning abroad center. Students may have access to a computer lab, a classroom space, and a library. On-site staff provide information to students regarding cultural activities as well as ensuring 24-hour emergency support.
