Description:
Leiden University is a comprehensive and research-intensive university with a 430-year history of producing outstanding graduates. Leiden is proud of its international position and cherishes the academic relationships with institutes and researchers throughout the world. Leiden comprises six faculties with an enrollment of approximately 17,500 undergraduate and graduate students. The faculties offer a wide variety of courses in English at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Leiden is located just eight miles east from the North Sea coast, in between the cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht. The Hague can be reached by train in 12 minutes, Schiphol Airport in 20 and Amsterdam in 35 minutes.
Life in Leiden is greatly influenced by the relatively large number of students, as most of them both live and study in the historic town of Leiden. Since Leiden is a small town, all the university buildings are within walking or cycling distance. Leiden has a wide range of delightful cafés, as well as a variety of international restaurants. It is also a museum city, boasting a total of twelve museums. In short, Leiden is a small and friendly town, but with all the conveniences of a large city. Students tend to feel at home quickly, because of the safe environment and the individual approach.
