Dresden Music Studies Program
  Germany

Term: Fall
Dates: mid-August to January

Description: After completing the intensive German-language and cultural-immersion course, music students have the opportunity to enroll in music history, music theory and other classes at Technische Universityt Dresden (TUD) and performance classes at the Carl Maria von Weber Hoch-schule fyr Musik. The Weber Musikhochschule is a world-renowned musical academy that offers training in instrument performance (solo and orchestra), voice, opera, composition, conducting, jazz, rock, and music education.

Highlights: The Boston University Music Studies Program in Dresden offers students an opportunity to study music in a city with one of the richest musical histories in the world. Instrument, voice, drama, music education, music history, and theory are available at both the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule fyr Musik and the Technische Universityt Dresden (TUD).

After completing the four-credit intensive language course during the orientation phase, students on the music program take from 12 to 15 credits during the semester. Instrument, voice, and drama classes are held at the Musikhochschule. Students attend music history and theory lectures at the TUD, with the possibility of supplemental lectures at the Musikhochschule. Many formal performance opportunities exist for music students in Musikhochschule-sponsored ensembles. The institute encourages students to take advantage of its faculty affiliations with the Sychsische Semperoper, Staatsoperette, Theater der Jungen Generation, and Dresdener Philharmonie, to immerse themselves in Dresden's professional music community.

Students interested in participating in the music program must plan for their semester or year in Dresden far in advance. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Boston University International Programs for more information.
