Description:
Since 1950, IES has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 30 programs throughout the world.
IES Santiago offers a rigorous semester and full-year undergraduate program in partnership with the Universidad de Chile. IES courses are taught in Spanish. The IES Center is located in the Institute of Political Science of the University of Chile in an attractive building next to Santa Lucia park close to the central area of the city. The IES Santiago curriculum concentrates on the twin themes of tradition and development in Chile and Latin America. Most courses focus primarily on Chile, and some courses address the Southern Cone and the Andean region in a comparative context. The core curriculum each semester consists of Art History, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, History, Literature, Political Science, and Sociology. All courses are taught in Spanish and most include a field study component. Founded in 2002, the program also offers students the opportunity for internships and for service learning.
